Beavers for Cherries
Sept 9 - Oct 3 • Galerie Galou
237 Kent Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY
Opening Thursday, Sept 9, 6-9pm

'Americas' exhibition, curated by Yucef Merhi

Although 'Beaver' and 'Cherry' are both slang terms for the female sex, this playful
2-channel animation begins at a short news clipping: cherry trees in Washington D.C. are being
downed by a group of wild beavers. A dominant theme is squared-off American and Canadian
pride, as the beaver in general is the national symbol of Canada, and these specific cherry trees,
a post-war gift from Japan, are a prize symbol of unity in the United States.
